Lifting Heli's Around Glossop 13-01-2012

My first post of 2012 comes in the shape of another helicopter chase out towards Glossop, this time with the promise of 4 helicopters being seen!

The first target of the day was at the lifting site just outside Chunal where we found G-PDGF lifting stone up onto the moors in what seems to the un-trained eye to be a bath-tub! It is in fact designed with a quick release on one end to allow the stone to be accurately placed by crews on the ground.

From here we could see 2 more helicopters working further to the north, working from a site that we found to be best described as East of the Windy Harbour Hotel on top of the moors. D-HAFH & G-BXUF were operating from here lifting bags of heather brash for re-planting. The remote location of the lifting site means you'd need a lens of something like 12000mm to get a shot of them, this distant shot if the JetRanger is what I managed.

The final bit of the puzzle is filled by G-JBKA which is used to ferry the crews to/from the moors. They certainly make the most of the available light & these shots were taken well into the SS+30 allowed for day VFR flying!
